Choose a more valuable keyword – Parenting rather than Natural Parenting

"Parenting" – www.naturalparenting.com.au

This was an interesting one.

The site, already had No.3 rankings on Google.com.au for the client's desired phrase "Natural Parenting" and yet, the site was seeing very little traffic, and generating very little revenue. We set about to investigate what the problem was, and realised quickly the site had two major problems.

  1. Though the home page ranked well for its target phrase, none of its other pages ranked at all, as they were accidentally hidden from google.
  2. The phrase "Natural Parenting" was an easily achieved, low value term. We determined there was more value in going after the phrase "Parenting" whilst ensuring the site maintained rankings for "Natural Parenting"

This was a 4 month project that we did in partnership with Weblife. We partnered with Weblife on this project as and entirely new content management system was required, as well as a new design. It took 6 weeks to design the new site, and launch it, and another 2 months before we saw much progress in rankings. But progress it did.

After two months, the site went from No.394 on www.google.com.au to No. 116, then shortly aftert to 89 then to 23, then to Page One on Google, at No.9. The rise continued and then for four weeks it was at No.2, with only one site, a massively funded government website above it.

Then one day in March 2009, it went to No.1 on Google for "Parenting" and there it has stayed.

We are immensely proud of this achievement, to rank higher than a hugely funded government websites, and to achieve for our client an income that without such rankings would not have been possible.

Many thanks to Weblife, their inhouse CMS is a search engine powerhouse, and our choice of weapons when we have to fight the tough battles against bigger budgeted competition.
