Search engine rankings are great.  Someone is looking for what you do, they search for it, they find your website… they become your customer.

Viral marketing works a little differently.  By targeting something that many people are looking for(usually cheap laughs) they can then tie this to a product or service and if its good enough… get that product in front of many, many people.

Here is a great example of an excellent viral marketing video.  Its very, very funny, and its designed in a way that you almost can't help forwarding on to your friends

So… tell me…what did YOU get the man to do? I typed punch, wrestle, tickle….. and a few others that I won't repeat.  hehe.

OK… so a video production such as this plus associated website programming might be outside the reach of a small business owner, but the lesson here is not that you need to create something this slick, just to give people a reason to recommend your website on to others when they might not in fact otherwise bother.
